Calcagni Real Estate Rides in Closer to Free!

On September 7th, 2024, thousands of cyclists will take off in the 14th annual Closer to Free Ride, a charity bike ride to fund cancer research. Riders, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters have raised almost $30 million for the cause since the first Closer to Free Ride in 2011. One hundred percent of the funds raised directly support research and patient care at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. This year, Calcagni Real Estate rides in Closer to Free!

Team Cheshire Rides for Life

Calcagni Real Estate is proud to have our team members participate in Closer to Free. Realtors Brette Stern, Lorrie Maiorano, Mike Riccio, and Calcagni’s CEO Luke Williams will ride. Team Cheshire Rides for Life honors Andy Celella and Mr. Mike, two Cheshire residents who lost their lives to cancer. They also ride to show support to the entire Cheshire community. Cheshire Rides for Life has already raised over half its $50,000 goal. We chatted with the Calcagni agents on team Cheshire Rides for Life about their experience in Closer to Free.

Lorrie Maiorano’s 4th Ride

Lorrie Maiorano, Realtor & Broker Associate, has participated in Closer to Free three times previously. She is excited to take on a new challenge this year for her fourth ride. While Lorrie has previously done the 65-mile ride, she looks forward to completing a 100-mile ride in this year’s event. Lorrie says that cancer has touched many lives in one way or another. This year, she is riding in support of her sister-in-law, Deanne DeCrescenzo, her uncle, Jim Decrescenzo, and her father-in-law, Tony Maiorano. She is also riding in memory of her Aunt Nina, Carmela Parrette. Lorrie says that raising money to support people battling cancer is a way to give back to her greater community and those in need.

Brette Stern’s 1st Ride

This year will be the first Closer to Free ride for Calcagni Realtor Brette Stern, where she will complete the 25-mile ride. She tells us she is excited to be a part of such a massive initiative to help with cancer research. She tells us, “I’m riding to support everyone who has been touched by this horrible disease in some way.” Brette’s friend and team captain, Caitlin Celella, lost her husband to cancer at the young age of 34. Caitlin has made it her mission to continue to raise funds in an effort to someday make cancer curable.

Calcagni is incredibly proud of all the work our agents are doing to raise funds for this event. Click here to learn more about team Cheshire Rides for Life and donate.
